Star Trek: The Next Generation: A Final Unity Tactical Strategy Guide This guide is intended to help with the Tactical Combat, which can be confusing and difficult. This will help you use the Tactical and weapons wisely. I might do a guide on the whole game, but that would be very long! Contents: 1. Delegation Buttons 2. Phasers 3. Photon Torpedoes 4. Shields and Damage Readouts 5. Tactics 6. Engineering/Damage Control 7. Enemy ships 1. Delegation Buttons There are two Delegation Buttons, one for Worf, the other for Geordi. Depending on the difficulty level you picked, they might be on or off. It's simple, really. Worf handles all Tactical related stuff (Weapons fire, Shields, Tactics) Geordi handles Damage Control, Phaser Charging, and Torpedo loading I highly suggest you let Geordi handle Engineering. Worf however, usually will waist Torpedo's like crazy, causing you to make multiple stop at Starbases. 2. Phasers The Enterprise is equipped with six Phaser arrays. The ship can fire a maximum of three beams at once. All Phasers will recharge automatically, Delegated or not. The Phaser arrays are located on Forward, Ventral, Dorsal, Aft, Starboard and Port sections of the ship. They do the most damage to shields, rather then exposed hull. Phasers can be fired from 1% to 100%, so I recommend you wait until they are fully charged, or at least half, because that is when they will do the most damage. Sometimes, if the Fusion Reactor is heavily damaged, the Phaser's won't work. It is possible for all Phaser arrays to be destroyed, so beware. 3. Photon Torpedoes Unlike on the T. V show, the Enterprise can fire a whopping 10 Torpedo's forward, and 10 aft! That's a total of 20 Torpedos smashing against the enemies shield and hull (Yes, The aft Torpedoes will fire, then turn around and head forwards, depending on the location of the enemy.) They will load automatically, unless the Torpedo launchers are damaged, or destroyed. Unlike Phasers, you have a limited supply of Torpedoes, but they can be replenished at a Starbase. Only use Torpedoes when the enemy's shields are down, cause they won't do much damage against Shields 4. Shields and Damage Readouts The shields have three status read outs. Green means they are fully charged/un damaged, red means they are moderately/heavily damaged, and black means they are down. Try not to expose one shield grid all the time to weapons fire, because if you do, it will collapse and the hull will be exposed. Try to maneuver the Enterprise, so a shield grid will only get hit a few time each. This gives time for the others to recharge to full power. There are six shield grids total, even though the Damage Read out only displays four. 4b. Damage Readouts There are two different Damage Readout screens, if you count Engineering, then three. Select "Damage" during combat to display the Enterprise, shield status, Phaser arrays charging (on ship), where the ship has been hit, Damage Reports (only when the hull/shields are hit) and tactical maneuvers just initiated. It will also display damage to the Enterprise (shows up on the grid picture of the ship). It is vital that you check this screen often. Even though Worf, Data and Geordi continuously yell out what is happening, they will not say which shield grid is down, or what tactic is in effect. 5. Tactics Ok, you're not going to win the battle just sitting there. There are dozens and dozens of pre-programmed maneuvers available, which will make your head spin. The Library Computer will give in-depth explanations of each tactic, and one tactic certainly isn't going to work for everyone, so just browse through the Computer, and after reading all of them, you will find one that works for you. I will highlight some. The "Break" maneuver is for when you need to get away from a ship that is going to explode quickly. This you will need, because the enemy ships explosion could destroy the Enterprise at a close distance. Even when Shields are fully charged. Attack maneuvers offer you a few attack maneuvers, such as Stalk and Release, and Speed Star. I will send an attachment to this guide later, explaining all of the tactics, in great detail. 6. Engineering/Damage Control Station During battle, your going to take damage. There's just no way around it. But it's a lot of hard work to handle both Tactical and Engineering at the same time, so I highly recommend you let Geordi handle it. But if you really want to, then I will explain the simple process. You simply move the yellow bar as far over as needed. For Phasers, you can move the yellow bar over all the way, which will divert more power to the Phaser banks. Unfortunately, this will tap into the Impulse and Warp Drive, so if you need to escape, in Geordi's words "We don't have enough power." 7. Enemy Ships You're going to encounter a lot of different ships, from Romulan Warbirds, to the Ferengi Marauders. So let's go through them. (Modified means the ship has been downgraded in weapons and shields) Gauridian Warbird (1)--- Moderate This battle can be hard at times, since Captain Pentara will use the cloaking device often, giving her crew a chance to repair the ship. At the beginning, release a full volley of photons, while firing full Phasers. Once you fired, engage a tactical maneuver. Fire continues Phasers, but hold fire on the Torpedos until the Enterprise is facing the Warbird, then fire. The Disrupters are powerful, so try to maneuver the ship, so one grid is constantly exposed. Use these tactics and you should win quickly. Romulan Warbird (1, Modifed)--- Easy This is so easy. They won't even get a shot off, because they will already be destroyed! No tactics, just sit there and fire Phasers and Torpedoes. Romulan Warbird (3, Modified)--- Fairly Easy Even though there is three of them, they won't pose much of a threat. You can even just sit there, and fire your weapons. Your shields won't even be penetrated, by the time all three are destroyed. Romulan Warbird--- Easy Unlike in the show, a Warbird doesn't do much damage to the Enterprise. You might want to initiate a few tactics, just for fun. Romulan Warbird (3)---HARD This will be everything but easy. This is what will happen. First, one will decloak directly ahead of you. Your weapons will NOT lock on to it, you will have to click on the green block on the grid. It won't be long before another one decloaks behind you. You must initiate a tactic maneuver now. Next, one will decloak fairly far away. Try to concentrate your weapon fire on one ship, so it will be destroyed fairly quickly. Repeat the process for the other two. One may cloak/decloak a few times, to try to get a surprise jump on you. Also, the Warbirds tend to move slowly, or just stop. That is the perfect time to attack. Remember, try not to expose one shield grid to all weapons fire. Unknown Alien Vessel/Chodak Dreadnought + Two Alien Probes-- Extremely Hard This will definitely not be easy. Not even a Galaxy class vessel can take these three ships down easily. First things first. Concentrate your Phaser fire onto the Chodak Dreadnought. Make sure you either take control and fly the ship for yourself, or activate a tactical maneuver, since the Dreadnought can release a payload of weapon fire at close range. Fire everything at in, then hard about. Ignore the smaller ships for now, just concentrate all fire onto the Dreadnought. If you taking a serious beating, go to warp. If you do destroy it, then you can now either target the smaller ships (very easy, few Phaser shots, Photon hits) or click bridge. Ferengi Marurader (1)--- Easy This is not part of the main plot, just an extra. Here's a warning, if you do come by one of these, Warp away! No, this battle isn't hard, but if you do destroy them (They will fire on you, and ignore your hails) your game will end with Starfleet informing you that The Ferengi Alliance has officially complained, and are demanding the Federation pay. So if you are in the middle of something important, and have not saved lately, retreat. If you do fight them, it's easy, just do the usual: fire weapons and pick a tactical maneuver. Borg Cube (1)--- Impossible Is it in the game? Rumors suggest yes, others say no. Since Spectrum Holobyte is not around anymore (They merged with Micropose, who then was bought by Hasbro, who in turn was bought by Infogrames) we can't ask. Will you be the first to find one? Well, that concludes this guide on one of the most fun/confusing/hard parts of the game. I should do a guide for this game, considering I already did a review, and this guide to combat.
